Well, it is both “spooky season” and Friday the 13th, so I guess we should throw some hardcore on the blog. The Music Blog. This undeniable ‘90s techno headbanger samples the 1981 horror flick Fear No Evil. Music for slamming hot cider as you get lost in a corn maze.
“Spin that shit like a helicopter.” FearDorian laced a shmacker for the all-lowercase Milwaukee autotune rager kill.dawn; the result is a poppy blast of cyber bounce that’s over in less than two minutes. Way less than two minutes.
From one short song to an even shorter song, it’s one Ohio band I have never heard of covering another Ohio band I have never heard of. You know what, though? The cut is proper eggy Buckeye madness. It’s the rock and roll pick of the week.
Wiki & Tony Seltzer “That Aint Pat”
As the weather drops, I start craving cozy chipmunk soul. Here’s a new joint from two NYC rap dependables. While we are on that Real Hip Hop tip, a record I missed from earlier in the year and only checked recently is Kool Keith’s collaboration with Real Bad Man, who I believe are a clothing company of some sort… But they also “make dope beats.” Culture is confusing.
ryanxb100 “two kids in a trench coat sneaking into a movie”
A fair amount of lowercase on this week’s edition of The Report presented by John’s Music Blog. I guess that’s just how the youth like to do things. And when the song title is as good as “two kids in a trench coat sneaking into a movie,” who am I to argue? The track is 7/4 time drum and bass with blown-out nü-metal guitar, and it’s going to fuck up my laptop speakers if I keep on playing it at full volume.
MIX OF THE WEEK: Funkmaster Flex “Hot 97, December 30th 1999”
It’s the bi-yearly archival Funkmaster Flex drop. I’ll never forget the first time I played a show in NYC; I’ll never forget riding in the passenger seat of a rental car downtown, listening to Flex cut-up doubles of “1 Thing” by Amerie. This rip is older, but it transmits the same energy—that of a DJ rocking with an entire city, casually doing whatever he feels like over the air.
