Magick Markers “Live At Flywheel, March 31, 2005”
I remember watching this video on QUICKTIME back in the day. Somehow it popped back into my brain and I was delighted to see that it existed on YouTube. Thank you Thurston. Just pure mid-aughts damage. Take notes kids.
Certified Trapper “Aint New To Me”
The Certified Trapper well runs deep. We may never get to hear what James Ferraro producing for TisaKorean sounds like. But this is pretty close.
Blown out pop blasts done at a high level. I know Poptimism isn’t cool anymore (because a three minute song is the same as a billion dollar superhero movie), but am I still allowed to listen to pop punk? Let me know!
It’s not that Sada Baby has been quiet, it is just that his output hasn’t been as completely overwhelming as a few other Michigan heads. He had a quiet 2021, though. This one is pretty good, and it has a pretty good Seal punchline.
I’ve been in New York City for nine years now. Only God knows how. Show Me The Body’s been there this whole time, and you know what? They’ve always been their own thing. They play less noise shows nowadays, for sure, but I think they now serve an important role on the hardcore circuit not unlike The Locust did back in the day. This song is my favorite from the new record, sounds like The Screamers trying to make Go-Go.
MIX OF THE WEEK: Flapjack The Kandi Kid “Tickled Pink”
MAJOR LATE PASS on Flapjack The Kandi Kid. I’ve been hearing about this candy rave revivalist for years, but only recently did I really do the dive. His two part appearance on Vivian Host’s excellent rave podcast is essential listening. If I ever do a podcast, I want to interview him. So many questions. Anyways, this mix is insane. He blends “Laffy Taffy” over happy hardcore and then scratches with his feet. Is Flapjack The Kandi Kid the best DJ in America?
