Empire Of The Sun Vs Riton & Kah-Lo “Fake ID X Walking On A Dream (Carter Walsh Mashup)”
Here is a combination of smooth indie dance and populist British hip house that makes me both shudder and squeal with delight. This mashup is about as 2005 as humanly possible, even though both songs are newer than that. I never posted on the Hollerboard, but I sure as hell lurked. Embarrassing and undeniable!
BabyTron & Certified Trapper “Zap Zone”
You already knew this was going on The Report. Makes me proud to be a Midwesterner. “Certified scammer/I’m with Certified Trapper.” Enter the Zap Zone.
Let’s stay in the region. It’s interesting how many Milwaukee bands have signed with Revelation over the past 20 years. There was a weird period where three of the city’s biggest hardcore and hardcore-adjacent bands all signed with the label within a short window of time. That was way back, though. Big Laugh are a really good, raging Milwaukee hardcore band, perfect for both record collectors and pit enthusiasts.
Everything But The Girl “Nothing Left To Lose”
Sounds like Everything But The Girl heard some Zoomer electronica and realized they were leaving the bag on the table! It’s their first single in 24 years, and it sounds pretty good to me. Let’s hope it gets some traction on TikTok.
Jayhood “(FAST) Workout (Chainwallet remix for live)”
Big mashup week at John’s Music Blog. Here we have Deejay Chainwallet taking an already frenzied Jersey club tune and putting it through the breakcore VSCO filter, making it even more mental. Then they put a donk on it! This is music for Beavis to throw the horns to.
Fully ecstatic 808 pop punk for true gym rats. Sounds like backflipping into a vat of Orange Crush.
MIX OF THE WEEK: JELEEL! “NTS: 11th January 2023”
Speaking of JELEEL!, here he is, along with versus.xx, live in London, live on the radio, going nuts. This guy might be the Andrew WK of rage beats. This is a fun ass hour of music, mirth and mayhem (shoutout to Tom Scharpling).
