Every few years I remember this song, then it takes me like 30 minutes of googling to figure out the damn band’s name. This is a lost hit from a somewhat cutty “New York City is back baby”-type aughts rock and roll band (just look at that cover). I had to do even more googling to see if The Fever were mentioned in the new Meet Me In The Bathroom movie and of course they were not, but Rob Sheffield did give them a brief shoutout in his Rolling Stone review. That guy remembers.
TisaKorean keeps drilling down to the essence. He understands that Southern dance rap is timeless American music and he flips it like Devo did with “Working In The Coal Mine.” Let the drops rain over your brain. Psycho and joyous!
BFB Da Packman posted this song on his IG Story, so I guess I had to check it out? Classic smooth Bay rap done by a guy from Maryland. It’s no surprise that his most popular song on Spotify is with Frisco King Larry June. Good stuff.
What connects Duster and Deftones if not drop tuned guitars? Milly understands this. These RUSTBELT labelmates make 90s music that could only be made decades removed from the actual 90s. The first song on their new record bangs. Lifehouse “Hanging By A Moment” is maybe my favorite droptune pop song.
From current labelmates to former tourmates, this new YACHT single is tough funk punk ready to do battle and wipe the snot off your skinny scarf. YACHT knows about laptops on the ground at the DIY space. You weren’t there. Do I want a skinny scarf?
Mike, Wiki & The Alchemist “One More”
Good New York rap. Soul samples sound especially cozy around this time of the year. Am I crazy for really wanting a breakbeat to drop at some point? Is that too much to ask? I know there are drums elsewhere on this EP. But I want some on this song…
MIX OF THE WEEK: Ryland Kurshenoff "Playstation Jungle Mix 01"
Oh, you said you were looking for almost three hours of atmospheric jungle music made for games on the original PS1? No problem. I got you. -John (of John’s Music Blog)
I have no memory of this The Fever song from early 00s but it rocks. Kind of funny how dissonant the cover art looks compared to the music. Maybe that's just me
