I like how this song doesn’t directly jack the Law & Order theme song, but just sort of alludes to its general vibe. That’s probably to avoid copyright issues (an earlier Luh Tyler song also called “Law & Order” directly samples it), but the end result gives the track a noir-ish feel that almost reminds me of mid-90s New York rap. The Floridian drawl that punctuates each punchline is what keeps me coming back for more.
Judy And The Jerks “I Lost My Feet (Live in Atlanta)”
My favorite egg-fried hardcore punk band in live tape damage mode from last spring. Sometimes I fantasize about living in Hattiesburg and going to house shows three nights a week.
The Prize “Wrong Side Of Town”
Rugged power pop from Australia. Got the hooks on lock, got the dueling guitars on lock. Big rock and roll week here at The Report.
Babyface Ray (Feat. Lil Durk) “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy”
This is the song off the new Babyface Ray record that I’m going to be putting on repeat: it’s the hit. Durk’s vocals are good and loud. Speaking of Detroit, only recently have I dug into the Never Ending Game discography, and I gotta say, that band is making some top shelf tough guy hardcore. Rock and roll week.
Undeniable anthem for all you rap rock goons out there. "Now I got my Vans on/Bouncing on your mattress.” That’s a bar. Remember when Sleigh Bells were in the background of every movie trailer? What was that all about? When was that? It wasn’t as long ago as we all might think…
Zulu - Fakin' Tha Funk (You Get Did)
Rock and roll week continues: brutal with a nice bounce, this new Zulu single is perfect for the contemporary pit. That little Jay-Z/Golden Axe piano nod is nice, too.
Jordan Davis “What My World Spins Around”
I keep forgetting to put this on The Report, but thankfully DJ George Costanza reminded me. Maybe the most gratuitous easycore breakdown moment in a country song to date and a perfect “capper” for rock and roll week. Seven songs this week. That’s too many songs. What am I doing with my life? I’m not 24.
MIX OF THE WEEK: DJ SWISHA, AceMo, Kush Jones & MoMa Ready B2B @ The Lot Radio 11/30/2022
Four good New York disc jockeys come together for two hours of sick styles on the occasion of their three year radio anniversary. Just high quality high energy dance music the whole way through. And a nice unreleased Tim Reaper flip of “Good Times” by Styles P.
