Sleaford Mods (Feat. Perry Farrell) “So Trendy”
I will always love Sleaford Mods. They keep making essentially the same record, with mild variations, over and over again. And you know what? I hope they do it forever. It’s those mild variations that make them special. This time around they got Perry Farrell in the mix. Why? I guess Perry just straight up reached out to them. And the result is a lot more fucked than I could’ve imagined: Mr. Farrell dons his finest cockney and tries to out-Sleaford the Sleafords. Pick Of The Week, despite the video.
Someone recently hit the John’s Music Blog tipline with a Jamaican scene report in the form of “Elvis Presley,” a swingbeat dancehall headscratcher. It’s got a minor New Jack feel, for sure, like Teddy Riley trying to remake the “Stalag 17” riddim. Or something. I don’t know. I haven’t drank a Logan Paul PRIME energy drink yet today, so I’m a bit foggy.
“Dusties” does a little flip of “Magic Stick,” which is fine by me. Maiya The Don is also a TikTok beauty influencer, which is also fine by me. But the reason this song is on John’s Music Blog is its tough-as-hell chorus. Flex better start playing it. By the way, I heard an instant-classic Flex rant a few days ago: 10+ minutes on McDonalds, live on primetime radio. Funnier than the entire new Chris Rock special.
Catchy Spits-ish synth punk from Down Under. Makes me want to find and slam a bottle of Logan Paul’s PRIME energy drink and then rewrite this entire blog.
Luh Tyler (Feat. BabyTron) “Fat Racks Pt. 2”
I promise I’ll chill on the Luh Tyler and BabyTron content, but both of them together? That’s a meeting of the minds that has to be mentioned. Detroit to Florida. Pure I-75 magic. I need to do a road trip. It’s been too long and I miss it: The open highway, a cold bottle of Logan Paul’s PRIME energy drink…
MIX OF THE WEEK: “Baseck 2x4 Flapjack at Boiler Room LA: Warp Mode”
In a world full of bullshit, these two maniacs stand tall. They are twin pillars of rave. Flapjack The Kandi Kid is like a Teddy Boy but instead of rockabilly it is 90s happy hardcore. Baseck is an electronica legend. I first met him way back in the OG Midwest breakcore days. Here they throw down on four turntables and some hardware. We are talking real skills here, people. Both have serious record collections and both can scratch their asses off. Flapjack scratches with his feet and he scratches with his chin. At one point he gets on Baseck’s shoulders and he scratches from there. Party gabber excellence.
