Babyfxce E (Feat. STAR BANZ) “No Profanity”
It’s no longer No Cuss December, but Flint rapper Babyfxce E is keeping things radio friendly. Here, he goes SFW mode over a jazzy, fidgety beat that bears some resemblance to youth rap hero STAR BANZ’s 2024 viral smash “Yea Yea,” which makes sense, because she is on the track, too. It’s a wholesome throwdown, ready for play at your local Denny’s or Shoney’s.
I’ve let the entire month of April go without spotlighting this remarkable Myaap song. My bad! MIDI string arpeggios dance as Myaap tells a tale as old as time: “She’s a fairy / With a fatty.” Who remembers Altered Zones? “Fairy” feels like it could fit on that blog, in between a James Ferraro track and a Grimes remix. It’s one of the finest Milwaukee rap cuts of the year.
The new EP from the Hattiesburg, Mississippi band MSPAINT is produced by two members of Show Me The Body, which makes sense, because I’ve always thought MSPAINT could be read as a poppier take on that NYC band. Both function as outliers within a hardcore scene that works with its own logic; personally, I’ve always been drawn to the bands that purists have a problem with. “Angel” is synth-pop “Sabotage.”
Released in 2021, “i walk this earth all by myself” by EKKSTACY currently has almost 300 million streams on Spotify. It’s somewhere between Juice WRLD and Joy Division and it serves as the basis for a new Chuckyy tune. Because of that, “My World” has a bit more tempo than his usual material. Frankly, it’s kind of triumphant.
Western Mass scene report: It’s still snowing—at least according to a new cut by two legends of the region, who come through here with a cheeky bit of fried attic pop. As long as we are talking Gods Wisdom news and updates, the guy recently put out a collaborative EP with Mal Devisa, a sax-and-electronics jam that sizzles like vintage Wolf Eyes. Ten years in, I still never know what to expect with this crew.
MIX OF THE WEEK: liljerryspringer “i hope u hate this shit vol 3”
When liljerryspringer puts Sexyy Red over Swirlies? It’s a movie! “i hope u hate this shit vol 3” is a 20-minute megamix that would make DJ George Costanza proud. People keep trying to kill the mash-up, but they only make it stronger. You can’t kill the mash-up. Chief Keef over Smashing Pumpkins is quite possibly the ultimate Chi-town banger.
Chief Keef + Smashing Pumpkins is indeed glorious, need a sunny day
