Miley Cyrus “Party In The USA (Pluggnb Remix Prod. Willare)”
Sometimes, late at night, I surf Spotify without a thought in my damn mind, listening to snippets of fourth-tier internet rappers with more plays than a Sub Pop band but not a lick of written press. Some of it sounds amazing; some of it sounds like noise music, which also sounds amazing. A few days ago, I stumbled upon a plugg remix of Miley Cyrus. How did I get there? I’ll never remember.
As if that’s not enough “Party In U.S.A.” content for one week, here is a new song from the Andrew W.K. Of Rage Beats that interpolates it to great effect. I think JELEEL! should run for president.
Edith Pike “how to play bad golf”
I'm not exactly sure why I’ve been listening to this new Edith Pike EP. It’s the most burn a contemporary screamo band has gotten from me in a minute. Maybe the spicing is just right—perfect blast-to-pretty ratio. The intro of this song is so classic that it gives me flashbacks to being a tween at a community center, clapping along to a band with shotgun haircuts and white belts. The last 13 seconds is what this skramz shit is all about.
The Mossie (Feat. E-40) “Been Getting Money”
Vallejo legends team up for an evil slapper supreme. Those 808s are overdriven just right. E-40 takes things home: "Throwed like a frisbee/liquor on my kidney."
Extreme Animals “party in the usa”
You know what? Let’s fucking end things with more "Party In The U.S.A.” madness. Extreme Animals have been dropping new bite-sized tracks recently, and you should fuck with those, but their Miley remix from back in 2010 is an all-time American Freakout Classic. Happy 4th, everyone.
MIX OF THE WEEK: Coco & Clair Clair “NTS 23rd June 2023”
I can imagine Coco & Clair Clair playing a set through a shitty PA at a DIY space, and I say that as a compliment. They also know about good songs, judging from this enjoyable hour of music that the duo recently played on everyone’s favorite boutique internet radio station. I’m just now coming home from seeing Weezer perform at Forest Hills Stadium. The great Future Islands opened (Sam is one of the best in the game). There is too much to say about the show, which was my first time seeing Weezer in over 20 years, but if you want to know more, hit me up, maybe we can work something out. I had a good time.
